What is a Pre-Mater's Program?

A Pre-Master's Program is for students who want to pursue a graduate degree, but do not yet meet the necessary English requirement of the university or come from a different field of study. The program is designed to help students reach the English language and academic standards required for their desired program and to provide graduate study skills necessary for successful graduate studies as well as to familiarize students with teaching methods at the graduate level. This program is offered from May to August for the first intake (October) and from November to February for the second intake (March).

Who is it for?

Academically challenged students who need additional English or subject-matter preparation before starting their graduate studies.

Pre-Master's Program Courses

BELTEI IU works towards creating a learner-friendly and highly supportive learning environment. To this end, two separate courses are respectively designed for students with English difficulty and with a different background from the intended field of study.

Students with English Language Difficulty

Student with language difficulty will be placed in the classes where the following courses are offered:

1. Academic Writing for Graduate Studies
2. Reading Skills
3. Study Skills
4. English I
5. English II

This pre-master's program aims to give students the confidence and a solid foundation to excel in each master's program. These pre-master's program courses are beneficial for students who need extra English training before entering the master's program.


Students with a Different Background

Student with a different background from the intended field of study will be supported by the preparation courses that include:

1. Academic Writing for Graduate Studies
2. Study Skills
3. Field Specific Subject I
4. Field Specific Subject II
5. Field Specific Subject III


These Pre-Master's courses aim at familiarizing students with the foundational concepts/principles and historical development in their intended field of study. Through this program, students will also be prepared for the graduate studies' teaching and learning methods/strategies as well as the graduate studies' assessment methods.
