At BELTEI International Institute, Campus 9-Stung Meanchey,on August 7, 2010, there was an opening ceremony of new academic year 2010-2011 of General Education, the new term of English as a Second Language (ESL), Batch 15, and awarding international Password, Level 6 & 12 ESL and Admiration certificates to BELTEI’s students. The ceremony was highly presided over by H.E. Sean Borath, a personal advisor to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, the Prime Minister of Kingdom of Cambodia and a secretary of state to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.
H.E. Ly Chheng, an Advisor to Council of Ministers, a Director General of BELTEI Group, and a Director of BELTEI International Institute said that “BELTEI International Institute is a private educational institution which has been operated since January 1, 2002; now, it has 10 campuses including the one under construction which will be open very soon. All the institute buildings belong to BELTEI. ”
BELTEI offers five main programs:
1-General Education (Grade 1-12)
This program is designed and conducted in accordance with the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports’ (MoEYS) curriculum by adding English translations to the Khmer titles and subtitles for Grade 1-12 and extra computer courses for grade 6 to 8. After completing their study of Grade 12, the students who want to take BELTEI’s bachelor’s degree course are given scholarship 50% on tuition fees for 4 years.
2-English as a Second Language (ESL) from Pre-school to Level 12
It is an American-standardized program. The text books, which are being used, are sponsored by McGraw Hill Education in USA. For the students who study level 12 (High Advance Level), they are awarded two kinds of certificates issued by BELTEI Head Office and Password or TOEFL.
3- Faculty of Foreign Languages (BA. BEd and Associate of Arts in English literature)
For Associate and Bachelor Programs, BELTEI offers only one specialty which is English. The curriculum is a credit based system, which is fully accredited by ACC. BELTEI has collaborated with Regent’s College in London-UK. For students who are graduated form the Foundation Year Program are obliged to study at Year 2 (Level 1) at Regent’s College.
4-Computer Training Program
There are 23 different courses with new curriculum of version 2010 that prepare students for the needs of the present labor market.
5-International Test Preparation Program.
BELTEI has obtained an authorization and licenses to operate three official test centers:
1. Authorized TOFEL iBT Test Center, authorized by Educational Testing Services located in the USA. The test results are recognized in more than 160 countries in the world.
2. Accredited Password Test Center, accredited by English Language Testing Ltd. located in London, UK.
3. ICDL (International Computer Driving License) Approved Test Center, accredited by ECDL Foundation. The test results are recognized in more than 140 countries in the world. It is useful for the students who want to go on their studies abroad and work for organizations or companies.
Academic Year 2009-2010 Study Outcome:
1. General Education
- 716 grade 9 students took junior high school national examination; 712 students passed (=99.44%) but only 2 students failed excluding 2 absent students.
- 555 grade 12 students took senior high school national examination on July 26-28, 2010; the result will be posted on August 20, 2010.
*** 553 (=99.64%) of the 555 students of BELTEI passed the official high school national exam, academic year 2009-2010 !!!
2. ESL, General English as a Second Language
- 152 level 12 students of Batch 13 and 14 took their exit exam; the 41 students obtaining scores more than 70% took password Test and 27 students (=17.76%) could pass international standard (form 5.00)
- 350 level 6 students took their final exam; 341 students passed (=97.42%) but 9 students failed.
3. Faculty of Foreign Languages
- 72 students, 45 B.Ed. and 27 AA students, are taking their state exam on August 13, 2010.
4. Computer Training Course
- 613 computer students took their final exam. The number of students graduated from the programs is listed as follows:
- Word and Excel = 310 students
- Adobe Photoshop = 97 students
- Microsoft Access (Level 1&2) = 80 students
- QuickBooks = 70 students
- Internet & E-mail = 56 students
5. TOEFL iBT Preparation Course
- There were 94 test takers including 21 Toefl and 73 Password test takers of 3 batches
After that His Excellency added that “Besides providing the above training the institute has tried to educate students to know about self-identity clearly, to love the country, to obey state law and school internal regulation, to have solidarity among students and students, students and teachers, the management and staff, not to discriminate again others especially to promote a good relation among school families and society, and to follow the three models of learning: Learning from School, Learning from Work and Self-study.” His Excellency admired and deeply thanked Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, the prime minister of Royal Government of Cambodia, who is a greatest Khmer hero that strengthens and expends educations both private and public sector and has tried to reach the educational goal (Education for All, All for Education) both in urban and remote area.
