In response to the recommendation of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and also the comments made by His Excellency SEAN BORATH, (Personal Adviser to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN and Honorable President of CHEA, 1,425 members of CHEA volunteered to donate blood for the Ministry of Health, in order to save the lives of accident victims. Among the volunteers were 216 members of BELTEI International Institute, including the management team, administration staff, teachers and even students, all of whom volunteered to participate in blood donation, on 21 October 2011 at BELTEI 9 Stueng Meanchey. His Excellency Ly Chheng, Advisor to the Council of Ministers, Director-General of BELTEI Group and Director of the BELTEI International Institute said that ‘the management team, staff, teachers and students of BELTEI were very willing and pleased to donate their blood to save the lives of victims of various accidents at this time because it is a good deed for humanity, social solidarity and strong unity which is priceless.’ So far, the management, teachers, staff, and students of BELTEI have helped in many social affairs totaling 121,729,300 Riels. This money was distributed to the soldiers who protected the Preah vihear temple on four successive occasions: 15,000,000 riels, 17,313,200 Riels, 31,196,400 Riels, and 25,000,000 Riels. Furthermore, we also donated some money in the Koh Pich tragedy through the Bayon Fund amounting to 33,219,700 Riels. CHEA, has also helped in many social affair totaling 404,338,740 Riels. This amount was distributed to the soldiers who protected the Preah vihear temple on five consecutive occasions: 70,848,400 Riels, 115,117,900 Riels and 36,000,000 Riels through the Prime Ministers Cabinet, 73, 568,300 Riels, through the Bayon Fund and 108,804,100 Riels through His Excellency Hun Maneth and His Excellency Sean Baroth. The last contributions were made directly to the 41st, 42nd and 9th Brigades located along the Cambodian/Thai border. His Excellency Ly Chheng next expressed his respect and sincere thanks to His Excellency Sean Baroth, the Honorable President of CHEA because, with his guidance and motivation, the CHEA management team issued a letter of appeal to all CHEA members asking them to donate blood and help save lives. To date, there are a total of 1,425 volunteers who have signed up to donate blood. These include; 391 from the Human Resources University, 74 from PUC and 216 from RUPP, totaling 983 volunteers who have already donated their blood in response to CHEA’s appeal. His Excellency Ly Chheng expressed his profound thanks to His Excellences, Luk Chum Tev, and all others members of the management teams, staff, teachers and students from the various higher education institutions and all those who are members of CHEA, for voluntarily donating their blood to save these victims lives and, for all their financial donations to other social causes so far. Dr. Hok Khemcheng, the President of Blood Donation Center of the Ministry of Health said, ‘after the appeal made by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN; Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, blood donation has increased dramatically, with people from other ministries, institutions and students from universities all volunteering.’
Dr. Hok Khemcheng explained further, ‘the requirements for someone to be a blood donor are that he or she must be at least 17 years of age, must weigh at least 45 kg and must be in good health.’ ‘All donors will be subject to a medical examination for blood group analysis, red blood cell examination and an iron content test.’ ‘Donors can only donate if they have enough red blood cells, however, if you are receiving certain medical treatments or your blood is infected in some way, you will not be allowed to donate.’ He added that ‘each blood donation requires 350ml which is equivalent to 8% of the total blood of a human body. Dr. Hok Khemcheng expressed his profound thanks to His Excellences, Luk Chum Tev, and all the CHEA management team, members from other higher education institutions, Board of Directors and Acting members of CHEA for donating their blood to save the victims in need of blood. So finally, the management team, staff, teachers, and students started to donate their blood.
